The Story Behind the Donkey in the movie BLACK HAWK DOWN - #shorts #short

During the production of "Black Hawk Down," the filmmakers faced budgetary limitations that threatened to remove certain elements, including the scene with the donkey. However, director Ridley Scott's note "I miss the donkey" prompted the team to keep the scene in the final cut. This attention to detail and dedication to storytelling is a testament to the filmmakers' approach to this true-to-life account of the Battle of Mogadishu.

Blackhawk Down is one of the greatest movies ever made. The amount of ordinance expended is truly awesome.

...the donkey scene was in Mark Bowden's book...I was glad they put it in...made the movie 'that much closer' to the book...

"I miss the donkey."
No truer words could be said.
It added a sigh of relief for a brief moment and added a tint of humor where there shouldn't.

For me the donkey scene reminded me yet again about the absurdities in war.

I was a MP (511TH MP CO) out of FT Drum, NY and was deployed to Somalia and guarding the stadium with the Pakistani military. The donkey was their main mode of travel with carts just like I'm the movie here. I've never watched the movie!

My favorite war movie of all time, and an excellent book as well.
The helicopter pilot who was captured by the enemy also wrote a book about his experience during his captivity, too, and that's a great read as well.
One of the reasons I love the whole story is that it proves how badass America's military is, and how well trained our soldiers are.
The number of enemies killed versus casualties received is just insane, and is such a great example of why our soldiers are so valuable.
But it's also a cautionary tale about why we shouldn't send soldiers to foreign countries and tell them they can't shoot bad guys unless the bad guys start shooting at them.
It really feels like our troops go into every situation with their hands tied.

I'd assumed they wouldn't include the scene of the guy riding the water buffalo both being turned in ground meat by the miniguns on a little bird in an alley. I can't imagine how they'd have filmed THAT

My cousin Troy was in Somalia when this happened. He flew one of the Little birds that dropped Delta Forces off in the city later.

There were also 173 soldiers of company A and B of the 19th malay regiment under the U.N banner along with pakistani troops and 70+ armed vehicles, it's a big enough contribution to be added in the movie since they also suffered trying to evacuate them, the Americans would've had a harder time without the UN forces. At least give them a scene or a note in the movie.. this is the typical Hollywood fashion of "america being the hero"

Just love the accuracy, even they showed that one little bird pilot shot skinnies using MP5 from the cockpit.
