Roblox has released a new ban API update that can ban players and detect their alt accounts from games.

I don't think people even understand this update. Roblox is NOT banning alt accounts from the platform! Roblox has just made it easier for developers to moderate their games and stop people from ban evading with alt accounts. Using alts on Roblox and in Roblox games will always work unless you get banned by a developer, which will mean you can't play that game on any of your accounts.

TLDR: Alts are still allowed on Roblox and in games, Roblox just made it easier to stop trolls or ban evaders by basically letting devs IP ban people from games.

It ONLY affects users BANNED from a GAME. Your account isn’t going to get deleted off the PLATFORM for being an alternate account.

not only is this bad for trollers, but other kinds of alt using, for example in islands, you need alts to farm stuff like trees, without them you cant, i guess

barneyhunter made an update video about this, basically saying it's not as much of an issue as we thought. it's mainly going to be used against pedos and the like instead of people just messing around. any game that actually hardbans anyone using this feature and not just the weirdos will likely lose a ton of players so it's not really worth it.

I got scared for a second because I thought it meant just Alts in general (which would be dumb) so my Alts used exclusively for uploading decals for games is safe.

even though the API has some issues, at least it's a step on the right direction

*- doesn’t let you specify placeids to ban from, its either from all places or from the place that banned the player*
*- alt detection is garbage*
*- the prompt for ban has bad wording*
*- ban reason gets filtered 💀*

I made a second account when a hacker took my main and put “alt” in its name. I doubt I’m the only one whose alt became their main. I don’t play anymore, but I do worry about the false positives

ive seen some ppl spreading misinformation, they are NOT banning ips. they are using mac addresses, which are device identifiers.

It's Roblox, we can never be too sure about how well stuff regarding moderation will work.

It's funny how they implement this because I remember there was a building game in 2011, where the owners would somehow find the griefers's public IPs using an exploit in the HTTPService or NetworkServer I think. It's good that Roblox made something like this, but I think this could have been done like way earlier.

banning IPs would probably not be the best of choices considering multiple people in a household would be banned, not just one, they use MAC address so basically device

On one hand this sucks, but on the other hand, I feel like this could help some games get rid of actually terrible trollers with bad morals. There’s this one guy who got like 100 alt accounts that occasionally drops into one of my favorite games to yell and spam “FURRIES LIKE TO TOUCH LITTLE CHILDREN!”. He’s so well known to staff he’s actually expected at least once per week.

Personally, I’m really happy about this. This means there will hopefully be less predators on the platform targeting little kids.

there's a hundred reasons why this update is awful.

- kids with siblings who also play roblox
- anyone who's signed in to another person's account for any reason on their device, like when i was helping my friend sign in a long time ago
- i want to troll
- false bans or mistakes

and many more.. i think all that needs to be done is for games to require some tedious action for any new account to join, making evading with alt accounts exhausting and not worth it but simple and nothing to other users

this is literally an amazing update for us devs, basically if someone exploits we can just use the ban api on them and they wont be able to play our game on ANY other account which is super helpful
