“Something happened” is the most accurate way for Russian person to describe anything in Russia without getting in trouble

They were aldo "taught" that communism was a "workers' paradise, " instead of poverty with authoritarian rule based on terror.

"You are what you learn, "and this statement stands true on this!
After understanding that just leaves the question, "Who's the teacher?"

For the regimes in former ruZZian/Soviet occupied countries in eastern Europe it was extremely important that their population believed that people in the west where enemies. The problem was that just like today life in Eastern Europe and in ruZZia was miserable compared to life in west. However many of us had relatives on both sides so you would know anyway. Even if it was dangeroys to speak openly about. AND everybody did know the nomenclatura lived with western products, had apartements in west, and spend much time in west (just like today's leaders in ruZZia)

I was in jr high/middle school when the Soviet Union "collapsed" & remember the US clearly being anti-communism (will never forget a common phrase I heard my dad say growing up "god damn commies" lol) not anti-Russian, and the Soviet Union was anti-capitalism. I mean hello Vietnam, Korea as it still stands now etc etc

I remember the Guys from the Sovjetunion stationary in the DDR(Eastgermany). They don't have much but always gave us children some sweets or something like that. They was friendly and nice. Sometimes granny's bring them cake or bread and beer. They where so thankfull for these gifts.
I think they don't have enough to eat and so far from home... Man hard times for this mates.
