I think 4231 is best tactics for France on defense and attack also. I do possession and balance on attack. Pressure on heavy touch with 45-60-80 on defense. GK sweeper keeper, LB/RB join attack and overlap, Tchouameni stay back while attacking, Rabiot get forward and free roam, Grizzy gets into the box for crosses, diaby and dembele stay wide, Mbappe gets in behind. And all team are come back on defense

Exactly the formation and players I've been using, except Upamecano and Saliba swapped and Dembele and Diaby swapped (I also sometimes start Coman ahead of Diaby then bring him on if I'm struggling)

Balanced defensive style, 45 defensive width and depth (important to still be deep and narrow when defending as you usually have to play against either Mbappe or Vini Jr)
Slow build up play, possession based chance creation, 69 width, 8 players in box, 3 corners/ free kicks

GK: Come for crosses and Sweeper keeper
Full backs: stay back whilst attacking, stick to position, overlapping runs
CBs: default
CMs: stay back whilst attacking, stay on edge of box for crosses, cover center
CAM: come back on defence, get into box for crosses, free roam
Wingers: come back on defence, get in behind, get into the box for crosses
ST: Get in behind, stay forward

If you have your LB/RB staying back when attacking then you should have your CMs covering center, keeps them in the middle of the park to protect your CBs and forces your opponent out wide, much harder to play through
