I was a pilot in Gulf War 1. In our flying suits we carried a plastic wallet of 20 gold sovereigns total value 1000 GBP ( 50 GBP each) incase we were shot down. We could bribe locals to help us. We also carried a paper guarantee for a lot of money if they returned us to safety. At the end of the war we were offered the chance to buy all of them at cost price. As a young military pilot having loads of fun but hardly any cash i declined and handed them back. DAMN!!

I bought one sovereign per month, + one extra on my birthday and at Christmas and one extra to round it up to 15 per year since 1980. I have at times sold them when the price was up and rebought them when the price was down. By doing that i have at the moment 700 sovereigns equally split between Victoria, George V and young Elizabeth. Also some double sovereigns. I picked up some American 1oz eagles some years ago, they are really nice. I actually started buying gold cos i love the colour and actually having something tangible in my hands. Also if the economy collapses and the £ becomes worthless i have something that will be worth money anywhere in the

Well done. The time to start is always right now. I started in 2013 with both gold and silver. I was not nearly as disciplined as you are but am very happy that I started. I call it my rickety escalator: there are a few missing treads, but overall it’s always headed upwards

I love collecting the Sovereign coins, I started when I got married in 91, it cost me £44 a coin.

In January 2014 at £750 / ounce my sovereign stacking started in earnest and in about March 2015 it ended when I ran out of money. 🤣😂😛. Anyway I spent about £10, 000 and accumulated about 50 gold coins mainly Victoria Shield back sovereigns and the odd foreign coin. My best purchase is a George IV 1830 Sovereign in quite nice condition purchased for £450. 🙂. Back then I was paying £200 for a sovereign and £100 for a half sovereign. I was purchasing coins that would eventually give a modicum of value above the given spot price. In the Spink England coin book the sovereign prices are now giving BV ( bullion value ) on coins even back to Victoria shild backs. 🤔. I am happy with my little pile of gold that one day will buy me something nice. 🙂.
