Fly The DJI Mavic Air 2 With An iPad

With the launch of the Mavic Air 2 DJI also updated the Fly App to not only support the new drone but also added official iPad support. In the past, if you tried to run the DJI Fly App on an iPad it would only run in iPhone mode. With this update, you can fly the Mavic Air 2 and even the Mavic Mini with an iPad Mini or full-size iPad. You will need to use a 3rd party mount to mount the iPad in the controller. You also need to provide your own cable as the one preinstalled in the controller will not be long enough to reach the port on the iPad.

For USB/Lightning cables, you need to make sure you get a cable that is made to both charge AND transfer data. Most cheapo cables are only for charging. They don’t have the internal wiring for data transfer. So just make sure you get a cable that is made for data, and you should be fine.

I’ve an iPad mini mount that I use with my Magic mini but sometimes I just fit it into the arms that would hold a phone. Fits pretty well and frees up having to lug another piece of kit along.

Just FYI...I recently ordered the AmazonBasics USB-C to Lightning cable (Black, 1 foot, MFi Certified Charger for IPhone 11 Pro version) for about $10 and it worked perfectly between my Mavic Air 2 controller and a 7th Gen Apple IPad on this same mount so that could be another affordable option as far as cabling when using a newer Apple IPad with the Mavic Air 2/DJI FLY app. They also have 3' and 6' versions of the same cable as well and they all come in either black, white, or red variations.

Thanks so much for your video. I have been frustrated to find a cable to connect my Air 2s to my mini iPad only to find out from you that I had my iPhone 12 Mx Pro cable still in its box all along! And it works!!!!

The iPad mini fits without the tablet adapter. That’s what the holes in the controller are for on the MAVIC mini controller.

Hi I recently purchased a dji mavic air 2 and an iPad mini 6th gen to fly it with. But when I plug the iPad into the controller it says rc not connected. But it works with an iPhone with the lightning cord. My iPad uses the usbc to usbc cord. I’ve tried the apple cord and still the same result. Need some help thanks

The PolarPro mount is $100. My IPad Air sits on the bottom of the phone holder and is supported with some Velcro. A Lightening extension cable available on EBay works fine $7. My budget was stretched to by the Mavic Air 2 (the Fly More package is WELL worth it - 3 batteries, filters, etc)

Is the ipad a wifi only model or cellular? My concern is if it has GPS or not?

Hi, we have a iPad mini-6 with the mavic air 2. The iPad will not pair up with the drone, like it’s not there. We used the cord that came with to use iPad and nothing. Any advice?

I just tried to hook up my ipad using the usb c to lightening. While it works on my iPhone, it will not connect to the Ipad for some reason. Is the update for iPad’s in the app that we get from the ap store? Or is it built into the firmware for the MAV 2? Any tips?
