Vauxhall / Opel Insignia Grand Sport 2017 Review | Driver's Seat

We've been testing the second-generation Vauxhall Insignia which has a new name, look and engines.

The Insignia Grand Sport is longer, lower and lighter than the car it replaces and gets a more four-door coupe profile.

There's a choice of seven engines and seven trim levels.

The three petrol engines available consist of two versions of a 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre with 260PS which gets all-wheel drive and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

On the diesel front, you can choose from two outputs of a 1.6 CDTI and two versions of a 2.0 CDTi with the more powerful 210PS version getting all-wheel drive and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

In the most economical form, the Insignia will return 70.6mpg and emit 105g/km of CO2.

Choose between Design, Design Nav, SRI, SRI Nav, SRI VX-Line Nav, Tech Line Nav and Elite Nav trims.

Prices start from £17,185. We're testing the 1.5-litre 165PS in SRI Nav trim with a six-speed manual gearbox, which costs from £20,080.

A couple of corrections to point out. The review mentions an estate version, called the Grand Tourer, of course it's called the Sport Tourer, whilst we mixed the overall length increase with the increase in wheelbase. Therefore the new Insignia has grown in length by 55mm and the wheelbase by 92mm. Our apologies.

looks a great car i have the previous model sri nav 1.6 ecoflex 136 shame the car they lent you was so over specced most people who drive these are dictated what they drive and they get them as the factory made them perhaps the only choice being the colour! was an informative and good review tho ! just would be good to see one without thousands of pounds of extras!

Like the look of this car and the spec of your test model is what I'd choose but perhaps without the leather seats.

If I might be allowed to make a suggestion? When you quote the official fuel consumption info, how about you tell us what you've actually been getting during your time with the car. That way we get more if an idea of real world consumption.

Hi great review. I have the previous model. I have a few questions about this one if I may.

1) Is there a boot release button inside the car ?
2) Does the electronic hand brake have an auto hold function ? (On a Passat it will apply the it to stop it rolling on very slight hills) also on insignia you have to remember to apply the brake after you turn off the engine or it will roll away.
3) Road noise. I've heard criticism leveled at motorway noise from the tyres.

Oh one last thing - what was the fuel economy like from that 1.5 petrol engine? Does it really feel like it could go from 0-60 in 8.2 seconds as claimed ? (The old 1.6 petrol with 170 bhp took a second longer.)

That's a very nice detailed video, thanks for your making this video . I like this car but it comes with a major flop on the nitpicking side : lack of power trunk .How come didn't they add this useful feature is beyond my recognition .Don't they realize pressing the button to open the trunk is way old fashioned anachronistic take .
