The Nikolai Quarter in Berlin

The Nikolai Quarter in the center of Berlin is worth visiting.
It is the location where the city of Berlin originated. Heavily damaged in World War II, it was only in the 1980s when renovation works started.

Great Short about a cool place in former East Berlin. I've visited the Nikolai Viertel several times and find the mix of the reconstructed older buildings and 1980's Plattenbau fascinating. Some have referred to it as "Honecker’s Disneyland" since most of the structures are not original nor even in their original locations, but this location is indeed historic because this is where, as Olaf mentions, one the original settelments that later grew into present day Berlin was located. Two other interesting things if you visit the "Eiergasse" located on the east edge of the quarter is said to be the shortest street in Berlin. Also, don't miss the "Frieze of the Socialist History of Berlin" created by artist Gerhard Thieme during the 1980's reconstuction and located on a building at Rathausstraße 21. There are 6 concrete panels and if you look closely you can still see a few symbols of the GDR, some of the few that still exist in the city.

And now they will rebuild the Molkenmarkt, which will be directly by the side. Looks like the historic center of Berlin will be a nice destination in the close future.

DDR/GDR was the best country ever existed. Still bitter that is vanished and was colonized by West Germany!

Makes perfect sense why they did not want to re build it for deacdes beacuse why would you re build the eork of the tryants eho have destroyed the peasents for thousands of yrs?
