Hello welcome to the 'As it were' Maths YouTube Channel! I love maths and I am in the Sixth Form. The purpose of this channel is to help those of you out there who like maths as much as I do. Thanks and I hope you enjoy!

This video is on finding the general solution to a general equation for Forced Damped SHM. Prior knowledge about solving linear non-homogenous second order differential equations would help in understanding this video, however you can make it through without this. What is needed is an understanding of the central principle of Simple Harmonic motion, that the acceleration towards the centre of oscillation is proportional to the displacement from that central axis.

When I was first introduced to this, the scenario that we were given was a spring with masses on the end, in water, connected to a signal generator. In this case the water acted as the damper and the signal generator acted as the steady state part of the equation.
