LIVE: Secret Service and FBI Officials Testify on Trump Assassination Attempt Hearing | USA News Live | N18G
In a heated exchange during the July 30th hearing, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) pressed Secret Service acting Director Ronald Rowe Jr. about the number of agents working Donald Trump's Butler, Pennsylvania, rally. The joint hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Senate Judiciary Committee was the latest to examine what investigators have learned about the shooter who attempted to assassinate Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally, as well as the security failures that preceded the deadly shooting. Rowe, who since 2023 had been serving as deputy director of the Secret Service, was appointed acting director after Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation.
WASHINGTON DC - Acting Director of the U.S. Secret Service, Ronald L. Rowe, Jr, and Deputy Director of the FBI, Paul Abbate, testify before Senate Judiciary Committee on the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
In his opening statement, acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe testified that the attempted assassination of Donald Trump was a “failure on multiple levels.”
“I applaud the action of our tactical teams that responded so quickly,” Rowe said, adding that he wanted to thank local law enforcement for assisting the Secret Service.
Rowe also noted there were “multiple ongoing investigations” and said he pledges “my full support to those inquiries.”
Senior officials from the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI testify before a joint session of the Senate Homeland Security and Judiciary Committees about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
Senate lawmakers are expected Tuesday to grill the acting director of the Secret Service about law enforcement lapses in the hours before the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump in the latest in a series of congressional hearings dedicated to the shooting.
Ronald Rowe became acting director of the agency last week after Kimberly Cheatle resigned in the aftermath of a House hearing in which she was berated by lawmakers and failed to answer specific questions about the communication failures preceding the July 13 shooting.
Rowe will be joined by FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate at a joint hearing of the Senate committees on the Judiciary and Homeland Security.
The hearing comes one day after the FBI released new details about its investigation into the shooting, revealing that the gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, had looked online for information about mass shootings, power plants, improvised explosive devices and the May assassination attempt of the Slovakian prime minister.
The FBI also said that Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, has agreed to be interviewed by agents as a crime victim. The bureau said last week that the former president had been struck in the ear by a bullet or fragment of one. Trump said Monday evening that he expected that interview to take place on Thursday.

Pretty amazing that a reclusive 20 year old was able to outsmart the best and brightest the FBI and the Secret Service has to offer. Listening to and looking at some of the information, I call BS on the explanation about how this kid was overlooked.

At NO point should SS Chief Rowe have gotten snarky. He needs to ask for forgiveness, apologize to the shooting victims, and resign. Incompetence at the top of SS is disgusting. And....we, the taxpayer, get to pay his bloated salary.

I think a common sense question to ask is according to testimony, a local officer climbed up partially on the roof and saw the shooter point his rifle at the officer who quickly got down on the ground so why didn't the officer immediately take his own revolver and fire a shot into the ground to get people's attention before the shooter turned and fired shots toward the podium. if the secret service agents had heard a loud gunshot they could have reacted sooner and protected Mr. Trump more effectively.

People on the ground saw him. How did the ones above him not?

How did Crooks know Secret Service would not secure that roof?

Why the first local cop who get informed about a suspect on the roof has not done anything to let another team members know about it? If he did, then who’s responsible for alerts Trump’s SS to stop him going on the stage? That person should be investigated.

So, if they know it is almost impossible to communicate locally with the Secret Service, base on this testimony, then why in the world was that “building” so close and such a possible threat, not covered directly by the Secret
