Ah yes, my favorite OHKO move, Jillitine.

You know Nidoking has fallen from grace when it goes from more viable than the starters to less viable than Nidoqueen.

You know, I find it funny how the water starters are usually the ones being picked on speedruns. Either as the main carry for the entire game, or carrying until you get the box art legendary, or whatever.

My favorite sub-section of Pokémon speedruns are the custom starter ones, where you beat the game any with one of the 146 possible runs. Obviously most of the runs are with fully-evolved Pokémon, but imagine if someone was crazy enough to do this with Abra or Paras or even Pidgey and someone else was even crazier of trying to beat said records.

3:55 did this man really just pronounce it as Jill-o-teen?

I would have also mentioned the TM changes. Ice Beam and T bolt are locked behind the game corner, meaning you have to use the inferior Shock Wave, and later, Blizzard and Thunder if you want that coverage. Earthquake is also not available until after the gym leader campaign. You can teach Surf for Blaine but then have to go out of your way to delete it. They did allow him to learn Dig at least lol. I think when I ran it years back I went Megahorn, EQ, Blizzard Thunder for the Elite 4
Edit: also they changed Nido to only learn peck and Double kick, horn attack comes after level 20 in Gen 3

I wonder what’d happen of you use the in game trade in Leaf Green and use a caught Nidoran F for a Nidoran M. Wouldn’t it then get boosted experience (making leveling up easier than either playing Fire Red or catching one on your own)? Has anyone tried that? Lol

The music at the start gave me strong summoningSalt vibes. I love this kind of speedrunning documentary content ❤

Makes me sad to see the king fall, Nidoking was always my favorite pokemon in gen 1, he was practically the only pokemon I ever used. Even now years later he's still in my top 3 or so, and a genuine contender for the #1 spot.

I still regard Nidoking, and the Nidoran line, as the absolute perfect example of what a pokemon should be. It looks perfectly organic and animalistic, you'd almost be able to swear it was an actual animal, but it's not. Sure, it's inspired by bunnies, but it's not a clearly anthropomorphised rabbit like lopunny, nor is it just a cartoon version of the animal in question such as a rattata, nor, god forbid, a random mess of shapes and kitchen appliances with a face.

Nidoran looks both cute and yet vaguely threatening because of its toxic color scheme, which has no random shapes or designs, but is just a natural indication of danger that one might expect to see on a wild poisonous creature, and the spikes fit with that overall design.

Then the evolution looks brutal, as a pokemon evolution should look, powerful and aggressive. But it still looks like what you'd expect some sort of jurassic area poisonous rodent to look like. Half rodent, half dinosaur, 100% terrifying. If chickens came from dinosaurs, then I'd believe a bunny came from this.
Literally the only complaint I have about Nidoking is that there is no way it's only 1.4 meters tall, and I choose to believe that's only when it's on all fours because it is ridiculous, it's obvious that thing stands at least 1.90 meters tall or more.

But then again, heights in the games have always been BS.

Your content is just unreal mate. Look forward to every single video you post. From production all the way to narrating mate, it’s goat stuff.

It feels weird hearing this opening music outside of a Summoning Salt video, but for speedrunning discussion, it's perfect

I always love to hear about the 2nd E4 because most pokemon challenges videos skip it! For completions sake make it to the natdex!

Hey, Pulse - do not get this wrong, but: I remember watching your Moon video just over a year ago and being surprised not only by the comparatively low amount of subscribers you had, but also that, given how expertly crafted that video was, you did not have that much similar content. Well, a year has passed and I see you producing masterpiece after masterpiece, to the excitement of an ever-growing fanbase. It is a truly fantastic experience to see someone so passionate and talented finally get the recognition they deserve. Keep doing you, and thanks for the exceptional content!
