Before Joker was released in Smash Ultimate, dataminers for Smash found a file connected to Joker's with the code name "Jane" through a string dump. Supposedly, this file was also connected to a Maya model called "pony_hair" which caused many to speculate that "Jane" referred to an alternate costume, perhaps related to a possible Female Protagonist that had yet to be revealed (P5R had not been announced at this point).

There is a theory that Kasumi was originally going to be a costume for Joker very early in development, but was scrapped since she isn't the female protagonist. It's highly likely that Sakurai and the dev team was aware of P5R behind the scenes, as Joker's grappling hook move was first shown off in Smash before it was revealed in P5R, so they may have known about Kasumi and planned to add her into the game before this model was scrapped. I wonder if Violet being able to use Joker's weapons at some point adds credence to the costume theory, as one of the points against it was that Violet uses rapiers and rifles which wouldn't have matched up with Joker's knife and pistol in Smash.

Makes me think, IF there was a Royal anime extension, Joker would get downed by a Shadow and dropped his knife and handgun in the process. Before he would get attacked, Violet swiftly grabs both and athletically sweeps the enemies with a barrage of slashes and bullets from Joker’s own weapon.

After swiftly dispatching them, she would glance at the other members, who had their mouths gaping and eyes widened in astonishment, before Crow said to Joker “Marry her.”

I know there's so much proof that Sumi was supposed to be the female protagonist but was then later scrapped. But here's the thing: *The creators/developers had no intention on making her a female protagonist.*

hhmm maybe violet was supposed to be a constant threat that mimics joker n maybe akechi's weapons (maybe outfits too) and would act as maruki's bodyguard while also chasing you throughout the dungeon but that idea probs isnt the case and she was made into a party member instead

Makes sense maybe it could have been a thing you could originally do in the true ending route sense you have to pick her for that ending so you know your dating may as well give her the gun like what do you really need it anymore your probably OP already but they probably decided to remove it sense the player wouldn't want to be mean but they probably still want there gun you know.

Now I don't think sumire was suppose to be the Female MC but I do think sumires phantom thief outfit is an altered version of the outfit originally intended for the real Female version of Ren (Joker) but sense they scraped the Female MC they decided to reuse the costume and give it to sumire instead like they already have the costume it's just been sitting there why don't we give it to this new character we made and make slight altercations to it to fit this character instead you know like change the jacket a bit add a couple dancer things to it and boom sumires Phantom outfit and the gun was probably gonna be use for what I said but was probably originally intended for the real Female MC the Female Ren (Joker).
