The Evolution of the Latin Alphabet

This was a lecture I gave in 2014 at the invitation of the Italian Consulate in Shanghai concerning the evolution of the Latin alphabet. It was part of a larger conference that dealt with romanization. I came across the PowerPoint file, and I decided it to make this video out of it. I hope you enjoy it, and if you are interested in seeing more things like this, please subscribe to my channel. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this well-organized and well-explained lecture! As a linguistic and history nerd myself, I find it all too important for everyone to have such great access to the foundation and development of our modern writing systems!

Would have been clearer if you had used the Phoenician alphabet rather than the later Hebrew alphabet to show direct contact with the Egyptian script, in my opinion. It was the Phoenicians who carried the alphabet westward, beginning with the Greeks, after all.

Hathor came to be the Arabic word for OX and became THORE.

Latin alphabet has Turkic origin. It's originally from central Asia.
