In this video, I give you a "How do you handle stress" and pressure answer
This job interview question has many forms and variations:
How do you handle stress?
How well do you handle stress?
How do you handle stress and pressure?
How well do you handle stress and pressure?
How well do you handle conflict?
How do you handle conflict?
How do you handle pressure at work?
How well do you handle pressure at work?
It also relates to occupational stress, work related stress, managing stress, a stress management interview, a how do you handle stress interview question, and a how do you handle conflict interview question.
I discuss how this is a trick question / bad question, and that you shouldn’t say anything bad about yourself. The Alternative answer, “I do these things to manage stress” is problematic because now they’re picturing you getting stressed out often or excessively. When you answer this question, the more you talk about getting stressed, the more they will think you will get stressed in the job if they hire you.
In my experience, being on both sides of interviews, using this best answer to "How Do You Handle Stress? (with this example and sample) can avoid disasters and pitfalls during job interviews such as awkward silences. If they want an example of how you dealt with the stress, just say something like "I went for my evening workout and that took care of any stress". Period. No more dwelling on this question.
I put this question in the larger context and explain what recruiters are looking for.
- A good first impression.
- No concerns you will not be able to handle stress.
- No concerns you will be stressed out excessively.
- No concerns you get stressed out easily.
- You do not take up too much time on this questions so you can get back to making a case why they should select you.
