The Galilean Moons
Показать описание
Here are the Galilean Moons! They are the four largest moons of Jupiter, and each one of them is very unique.
Io is a volcanic world that is the most geologically active body in our Solar System. This geological activity is caused by the tidal effects of Jupiter and the other Galilean moons.
Europa is a water world with a crust of ice on the surface. Underneath the surface ice, liquid water is thought to exist, and possibly even alien life.
Ganymede is the largest of the Galilean moons, and it is the largest moon in the Solar System. It is even larger than the planet Mercury. It is composed of rock and ice but has a subsurface ocean. In fact, Ganymede might have more water than Europa!
Callisto is home to the most cratered surface in the Solar System. It also might have an ocean underneath its surface. Out of all the Galilean moons, the levels of radiation are lowest on Callisto, so it might end up being the location of the first human base in the Jovian system.
