STUDY WITH ME | Math for Quantum Physics

I cover ideas including Dirac notation (bra-ket) and how we represent quantum states as a linear combination using linear algebra. I've never done a video like this before so please let me know what you think. This is a process of learning for me too :)

Any ideas on how I can improve this series? I want to make it more interactive with you guys but I don't know how to do that without doing a livestream - which I do want to do but I don't think my laptop is good enough to stream with at the moment.

I’m 15 and all I wanna do with my life is study physics and learn. Your channel really inspires me to try and achieve this in the far future.

This was one of your most engaging yet. When you look into the camera this feels almost conversational, as if I were an undergrad again reviewing class notes with a grad student over Skype. I think Feynman would recognize your inspiration and approve. I'll look forward to the journey.

The sad thing about undergrad study is that you grind through all the maths subjects, just keeping you head above water (it is all just a sea of vector algebra, S-planes, differential equations and so forth). Only afterwards do you understand the relevance of everything and how it interrelates, allowing you to appreciate the whole landscape. I wish I had this insight earlier and had time to take in some scenery while on the journey...

Lighten up everybody. Remember that she’s a PhD student, and that, for her, there aren’t enough hours in the day. Im absolutely amazed that she takes the time to share her experiences, both good and not so good, with us. I received my degrees in physics late ‘60’s & early 70’s and I thought it was just me who had difficulties all the time; I felt that everybody was smart and I was not in the same league with them. Its only because of this series that I now realize that I probably wasn’t alone in feeling that way. Fabulous series that I appreciate more than I can say.

Sweat mother of god this is the first time I’ve felt at ease learning anything mathematical since my father completely put me off the subject 40 years ago by repeatedly beating the times table into me, thankyou so much, I shall be returning, and following.

This was a wonderful video and the beginning was so cute. You have such a soothing voice and perfect music to match :)

I started studying physics a couple years ago as a hobby, it was after I fell in love with astronomy, I've learned a lot and I've been trying to get a firmer grasp on the mathematics, but I've always been slow when it comes to calculus and such, but most of my studies consisted of the more theoretical side of things. I really appreciate videos like this, thank you for providing us aspiring scientists with your content, and keep up the great work!

I'd love to see the color space of our visual sensitivity shown with a 3d representation. like most people would be near a cube but a color blind person might have corners missing, a depression in a side, or perhaps some other shape. Right?

Thank you so much for this video. I also want to say that we're sorry if we're putting too much pressure on you when it comes to quantum physics or any other topic, but I think it's because we look up to you as an inspiration — specifically, people who are, like me, going into math-heavy majors soon.

Good luck with your PhD!

i spent a lot of time grinding on my linear algebra and this video finally made me understand bra-ket notation as linear algebra and also gave me a really neat way to support what i learned in linear algebra

Thank you Tibees! Your passion and dedication to spreading knowledge with others is well appreciated. I too, feel that the education we receive can be very career/application focused, leaving the student with cramming & memorization as primary goals rather than internalization of material. Oh well, regardless, higher education should be preparing us to be life-long learners, and your channel/platform is an example of just that. Thanks!

I can't afford to attend physics in uni, so I am studying on my own. Thank you so much, this really helps.

Mathematically (I had a B.S. in math some 27 years ago and am working an an M.Sc. in applied math at the moment), while it’s true that an orthonormal basis is often convenient, there’s no need for the basis of an abstract vector space to be orthogonal or normalized, only that they be linearly independent and complete (a mathematician would say that they “span” the space). That said, I really congratulate you for setting off down this path and I’ll be following it with great interest!

I love this, I'm studying for my quantum mechanics exam (or I should be) and this is relaxing and motivating me to get started. I love it when others are interested in studying something just for the sake of learning, because it encourages me to enjoy studying more too!

This format is great, feels like learning and reviewing alongside someone in person except you are organized of course and I like that.

Im not a physics or maths student but i watch your videos. I just love the way you say and the smile you make while explaining something is out of this world❤❤

This is amazing !! Voice + music arrangement is perfect for me. And going through the course with some additional comments from you is a lot easier than just reading through it. Thank you ! (Brilliant has just got a new premium subscriber).

I totally agree, Tibees. Quantum mechanics is mathematically intense but enjoyable. I have been studying it since 1990 when I was 25 years old, and it continues to be challenging and less confusing. Neutrons do not have charge, but they do have a magnetic moment.

Absolute evidence that the best way to learn is to teach. Possibly the best presentation of a subject to students ever....excellent!
