I'm a Trinidadian and I have to give massive credit when it's due. Smokey Robinson once said that a great song is a great song because it can be played anytime, anyplace, and anywhere regardless of the era or genre and it will move you. This is the best slow groovy song for Carnival 2017. Machel is great but his 2 songs "fast wine" and "lip service" cannot touch Hypa this year. He has the sound of Burning Flames with a touch of subtlety that I find very amazing. And the reason why this is a great song is because in the midst of "rock and come in"..."I know the face"..."acting single"...and so much more great songs for 2017, I still think this song has an extremely rude, slow, deep & wicked baseline with seductive female back up singers that makes it the Caribbean anthem for 2017. And even more...Hypa is not on any sort of 1-hit runs here...he's been doing his thing for a while. Dutty in particular was nasty last year for example. As a Trinidadian I am fed up of the bias that so many artists get that don't deserve so much airplay. We need to stop that bullshit and let soca breathe so other artists can have the confidence to create across the Caribbean instead of us in Trinidad trying to be greedy and eventually kill the soca art form. I love it when soca artists release songs 'off peak'. We shouldn't have to wait for carnival or crop over season to hear nice soca songs. Off peak releases is the way to go so that the music keeps growing and breaking into the mainstream. More artist need to do this.
