I've lived my 67 yrs here in Washington State. I used to go out into the foothills and mountains a lot when I was younger.
One beautiful, warm summer day, I was out in the woods east of North Bend, a small town about 35 miles east of Seattle.
I had been target shooting in the afternoon and evening. As the sun was going down, I was still shooting. I heard something let out the loudest, most horrendous scream I ever heard in my life!
I've spent a lot of time out in the woods in this area. I know the sounds wolves, cougars, bears and elk make. Those are the big mammals that habitate this area.. This scream couldn't be one of those....
First I want to say the scream was coming from a long ways off. I was in the plain of the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River. Probably three quarters of a mile, from my position, the foothills started to rise. So I'm facing the foothills in a small 5 acre clearing, that was cut by loggers. Ahead, a couple hundred feet in front of me, is a curtain of 100 to 150 foot tall fir trees where the loggers stopped logging. These trees were all around me, as far as the eyes can see, in every direction.
As I face the foothills, I hear the most god awful scream coming in front of me. I can tell it's a long way off. To me, it sounded like it was coming from the base of the foothills, at least a half mile away. And it is LOUD. Not only that, but the sound was echoing off the hills. I could hear echos and the screams at the same time, because of the long duration of the scream.
Because I knew it had to be aways away, and the fact that it was LOUD, it had to be HUGE AND POWERFUL.
Now this definitely
didn't prove it was a Sasquatch, but the next part is what convinced me.
After letting out a big scream, he accentuated the scream by beating a BIG LOG against a tree trunk.
This was in 1992, so my memory isn't great, but I believe he did it at least 5 or 6 times. The knock on the tree was LOUD and LOW. It could only had been done with a big log on a tree trunk. It was LOUD and it was coming from quite a far way off. A horrible scream, then two blows on a tree trunk, horrible scream, two blows to the tree trunk. The same cadence, every time. This was repeated at least 5 or 6 times.
Not only was there absolutely no way a human was capable of making such a noise, but one could never make one so loud, especially from such a great distance.
In this part of the world, there are no known creatures, that can beat a log against a tree, other than man.
In my mind I knew it was angry with me and wanted me gone. Even though I was armed, that didn't make a difference to me. I was scared and I wanted out. I immediately got on my motorcycle and got the hell out of the woods. I have been around bears, and never felt the need to run, but bears didn't scare me one tenth as much as this thing did!
My personal opinion is that Sasquatch is just a North American gorilla relative.
Europeans heard tales of gorillas early in their history, but everyone thought it was a myth until one was brought back to England around 1850.
