Unfortunately very few girls come to us for the treatment of dysmenorrhea. Since their mothers too have suffered from it they tend to use all the home remedies to treat them and they reach the gynaecologist only when the home remedies do not work . But yes home remedies are quite effective during the pain many of the girls use hot water bags on the tummy the pain that tends to occur is because of the contractions of the uterine muscle and using these hot water packs tends to make them feel much better. Even doing some exercise or yoga especially before the periods or during this normal cycle tends to relieve dysmenorrhea. It has been seen in in many studies that the girls who tend to do a good workout who are doing regular yoga they tend to respond better and have much less incidents of dysmenorrhea. At the time when the girl is having pain it's very important to have light food but yes to take something to eat. The girls do not take anything with this because they feel that they're going to puke or have vomiting but important to have some food so that the tummy is full and the pain is much less. Home remedies like taking ginger is also known to be quite effective in treatment of dysmenorrhea. When none of these tend to work then it is important to come to your gynecologist and take the treatment . When you do come to us the first thing that we advise you to get an ultrasound to be able to rule out what structural causes can be there in the uterus which could lead to dysmenorrhea. If you do not find any cause that can be otherwise treated we tend to ad you to take pain caners which can be started a day before you have your appearance and can be taken once twice or sometimes even thrice till you have dysmenorrhea or severe pain and they are quite effective.
