Tenkara Fly Fishing - the Minimalist Way To Fish in the High Country

Hey Everyone! I've been asked a number of times to do a video about my preferred method of fly fishing - Tenkara. I was introduced to this style of fishing from my friend Adam Stielstra, now this is pretty much the only way I fish. I have nothing against traditional fly fishing setups, it's just this a bit more compact and a little less gear which fits well with my full-time truck camping endeavors. I use the Hane rod as well. I don’t much care for the expensive lines that all Tenkara manufacturers want to sell us. I now use shooting line ($35 for 100ft). I tie a small loop of backing to attach to lillian, anywhere from 12-18 feet of shooting line and 5 ft of 5x. This casts really nice, highly visible, floats and feels good to cast.

Huge game changer for me with all my tenkara rods: remove the string from the rod plug and replace it with 36" of braided fishing line. When you set up, put your necklace on and never lose more tip plugs.ove lost 4 over the ladt 8years now. Zero since

Now you’re talking. I’ve been a Tenkara USA fan since Daniel started the company. Don’t limit Tenkara to just trout. Bass and Bluegill will make the line go zing and the fight is on. More Tenkara videos, please!
