The all-new 2022 Volkswagen GTI is here, and in this review Brad and Jared want to see if it is better than the outgoing mark 7 GTI by asking the question; why would ANYONE want to buy a 2022 Volkswagen GTI? They look at the changes made in the 2022 GTI, the size, the performance and even discuss it's practicality. The most practical thing about the new GTI might just surprise you. If you were ever in the market for a Volkswagen GTI, now might be the time. There are several different trim levels and it carries very impressive starting price. But Jared does take issue with one thing! Come join us as we review the all-new, and possibly best yet, 2022 Volkswagen GTI.

***Thank you to VW Waterloo for hooking us up with the 2022 Volkswagen GTI

I’m 38yo and a first time GTI owner. I get more attention in the GTI than my Mustang GT. With all the random people waving and acknowledging me, I thought there was a GTI wave, like being on a motorcycle or Jeep Wrangler. I love my 23 GTI-S. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned. The new MK8 is sleeker and meaner than any previous GTI before. The infotainment system is easy to use and becomes very familiar with the few drives.

Ha. Im in my 40s and just bought a MK8 and love it. In Europe, everyone of all ages drive GTIs - its the every man's car. They are sensible.

Over 40 here. Got rid of an S4 and waiting on an R. Get and enjoy whatever car suits you. Don't feel like you need to conform to someone else's perception.

I’m 58 & just bought my first GTI because I’m short & like small cars. The fun factor is just icing on the cake. And it *is* fun!

I own a 2022 Autobahn in the US and in the US it is the highest trim. Also with the price north of $40K for the Autobahn, young kids can’t really afford this thing, so it’s up to 47 year olds like me to enjoy this thing,

82 years old and have owned three GTIs and a GLI. Can’t seem to find an R so I guess another GTI is in my future.

I'm in VW sales and over half of my GTI customers are over the age of 50. Nobody is too old for a GTI.

At 76 have been enjoying my 2017 Mark 7 since new. By far, the most fun wheels I have ever owned. Been eye balling the new 2022, but will stay on the sidelines to see what VW does with a refresh to address some driver interface issues. Also will wait on the supply challenge to heal up so I have more flexibility with available colors/options. For right now, it’s a total enjoyment.

58 and I'll be buying one in a couple months. There is a 65 year old woman in town that I've seen driving every iteration of GTI for the last 20 years, and I just saw her scootin along in 2023 R a couple days ago.

Good review but I disagree on the age. I am 58 years old and I just took delivery of a 2022 GTI 6-speed manual Autobahn which is my third GTI. I love the GTI and I hope to be driving one until God's ready for me. Age is just a number! I feel as young as my 2022 GTI!

I am 78 and ordered my first GTi MK8 back in 2nd July 2021 - still no sign of a delivery date though!

I'm 41 and the Mk8 is my 4th GTI! I tried to give it up. I had a 2010 VW CC, which I loved btw. But I missed the GTI too much. Once they came out with 4 doors I traded in for a Mk7! I will never make that mistake again! GTI for life!

I’m 59 and I ordered my Mk8GTi back in May 21 still no sign of it. Hopefully it will be here in a few months I’m a better and faster driver than I was in my 20s/30s must be all the track days I do, you are only as old as you feel and I feel 25 😜

I've been a huge fan of GTI's and Golf's in general ever since I was a child. To date, I've owned 1 Mk5 Rabbit, 1 Mk7 Golf Sportwagen and 2 GTI's. Currently, I drive a 2022 MK8 GTI and love it!! Spectacular review guys. Let me fill you in on what GTI means, a lot of people ask this question and it's not something VW really advertises so I don't blame you for not knowing. GTI simply stands for Grand Touring (or Tourer) Injection. It's basically a term to signify direct fuel injected engines and the naming "GTI" has actually been used across many brands over the years and the very first manufacturer to use it was Maserati. However, VW popularized it 1976 with the very first GTI! Now, the term GTI is synonymous with a Golf. They no longer need to use "Golf" or "Rabbit" in the naming scheme for a GTI because when people hear GTI, they know it's a golf! At this point, no other manufacturer really uses the term because everyone knows what a true GTI is!! Hope that helps :)

In 1972 I bought a BMW 2002 and drove it until 1985. Fabulous car (when it wasn't in the shop, which was frequently). Since then I've driven nothing but Jeep Cherokees and Nissan Frontiers. A year ago, at 71 years old, I had a strong urge to get back into a sporty car with a stick (mid-life/late-life crisis?). I bought a 2021 GTI SE with a manual transmission. Great car...accelerates like a rocket ship. Most fun since my BMW. Hopefully the sunroof won't leak...I've seen lots of complaints about it on various VW forums.

At 69 years old I ordered a 2023 GTi. Age is irrelevant, car guys come in all sizes and ages.

Purchased my 2016 MK7 GTI brand new. I’m 32 years old and love driving it everyday. It’s the perfect daily driver. You are never “too old” to drive a Golf GTI. It’s a classless car with a timeless design.

I will never understand American’s obsession with image. Saying that hatchbacks are juvenile or only for specific age groups. This is completely untrue. Some people just don’t want to give up having a fun daily driver. In this world of boring crossovers and soulless EV’s, it’s nice to have something fun and familiar.

I've just come across this review, and like many who have already commented, I disagree that the GTI should have a cut off age. I'm in my 5th decade now, and ever since I passed my driving test in the late 80's I've wanted a GTI, however, growing up on the other side of the pond (UK), owning, insuring and running a GTI was not attainable at the time.
Now, however, I have the funds to be able to do that, and my name is down for a 2023 GTI Autobahn (for the exact same reasons described in the video) - DIY gearbox, Atlantic Blue with the wheels, sounds and sunroof package (just wanted the upgraded stereo but unable to just get that - which is a shame in my opinion), delivery slated for this time next year, which will be ideal as the lease on my 2020 GLI will be coming to an end.
It is in my opinion, one of the best looking cars on the market, and I'm taking this opportunity to get a manual hatchback with enough licence losing power to enjoy. Also, and not mentioned in the video, the power is available running it on 87 Octane and with the way fuel prices are going, that will save a few $$$ at the pumps over the life of the car.
