I STAYED IN THE MOST DANGEROUS AREA OF OSAKA | Exploring The Notorious Nishinari District

Nishinari is well known by locals as the most dangerous area of Osaka. But just how dangerous is it? After spending a whole week staying in a hotel there, I thought I would share my experience, as well as join a tour that goes deeper into the district to some areas that I probably wouldn't want to go to alone... especially at night. Nishinari definitely has a different feel to it compared to the rest of the city, but I think that's what kind of gives it its charm and makes you look at Japan in a new light. Join me on this tour as we walk around the district, talk about some taboo topics in Japanese culture and give you some insight of how people here live. Hope you enjoy the video!

*I highly recommend this travel health insurance because you don't have to pay out of pocket for your medical expenses and they have very reasonably priced long term plans. You can buy the packages for shorter trips as well, but they're especially fantastic for digital nomads and nomads who want regular health insurance when they are abroad. I am an affiliate of this company, but of course use the plans myself.

Very well done and engaging! It was very nice of him to let you film his Tour, made for interesting viewing!
Stayed in Nishinari-ku back in '19 and never felt unsafe, or even a little nervous... though it might help that I am a 6'3" former US Marine and walk with a sense of purpose and strength, or so I am told by my lovely Better Half, Alan... but, who knows?!

Well, that area was a little bit dangerous 30 years ago but gradually it became much more safe. Osaka is one of the most growing city in Japan now.

Hello Alina, It looked like an interesting tour of Nishinari District. Harriet and I have been to Osaka but not that district. Did you dine at all in the district? Like any big city in the world, it has
It's red-light district . Thank you Alina for the wonderful tour with the guide. Sending you much love and affection❤❤❤ Harriet, Jim and Yuki Richmond, Va.

The safety in Japan is on a level you don’t find in the West. Violent crime is virtually unheard of. A lot of that’s due to the fact in Asian cultures our obsession with personal identity is frowned on. Family, clan and the country come first. A very different way of doing things that keeps people in bounds. Nishinari as shown in your video is in stark contrast to the dangerous hoods of American cities. Its literally like the difference between day and night.

Nishinari has recently been working to improve the city. It was a dangerous city probably decades ago. There are several places like Nishinari in Japan, and those places usually have cheap hotels where day laborers stay. I once stayed in such a place in Tokyo about 10 +years ago, but the atmosphere of the people staying there was so scary that I could not leave my room... Perhaps such generation will be much less in another 10 years. Such a town with many day laborers is called "do-ya-gai (ドヤ街)" in Japanese, but I think it is hardly heard anymore.

Hey Alina, Hope you're having a blast there majority of vids from Japan are from Urban areas, If it's not big of a hassle you should check out the country side of Japan.
God bless and stay safe.

Interesting video about a less known side of Japan, you succeeded in doing something original. Fun fact, Luca is an Italian name and your guide spoke English with venetian accent.

Welcome back to Japan! Nishinari Distinct was first developed as an amusement center in Osaka symbolizing the Tsutenkaku Tower. But the area had been left behind as northern Namba and Umeda distincts flourished. Nishinari became the temporary residence for migrant day-workers. That's why everything is so cheap there. Now renovation works are going on there and cheap lodgings are changing into backpackers' hostels.

Compared to downtown overseas, it is incomparably very safe. I don't own a pistol. There is no town in Japan where you can't go out at night. Nishinari is also a town of low-income workers, not a slum.
