Today, June 2nd 2020, marks the end of an era for 2 Delta fleet types as the Delta McDonnell Douglas MD88 and MD90 make their last revenue flight. Both fleet types were set to be gradually phased out this year but had an accelerated retirement due to the covid pandemic. After the 2 iconic aircraft make their last flights with passengers, they will be repositioned to Blytheville Arkansas.

These are my favorite planes of the delta fleet history and I cannot stop looking them up on the internet and watching videos of them.

I flew in a MD-88 a few years ago. One of my favorite to watch BECAUSE it was noisy. Today, June 2nd 2020, marks the end of an era for 2 Delta fleet types as the Delta McDonnell Douglas MD88 and MD90. These are my favorite planes of the delta fleet. The MD-80s engines were designed to be more powerful, quieter and efficient than the DC-9. Sad to see these lovely Mad-Dogs disappearing! I hope they find use in some other service but for freight, I think they maybe be too small unless the sole cargo was just diamonds...

This is so sad. I missed those planes so much. I flew in a MD-88 a few years ago, in 2011. I’m gonna miss that plane

I would imagine that at least one McDonnell Douglas MD90 from Delta Airlines would be sold to a passenger charter airline (which flies globally).

I was never a big fan of the MD88/90. I did not like the smaller overhead space on the 2-seat side of the aircraft. The transition from the first class cabin to/from coach with a roller bag was awkward.

The MD-80s engines were designed to be more powerful, quieter and efficient than the earlier JT8D predecessors that were used on the DC-9, 727, & 737-200. I know this because the because the JT8D-200 has bit of a bigger bypass ratio than original.
Original JT8D=more noise and emissions
JT8D-200 Series=Increased bypass ratio, more powerful, Stage III Compliant and efficient.

First time as a 7 years old flew 757-200 from Copenhagen to Tel Aviv and back to weeks later in a Scandinavian airline system MD 83! I liked the boarding from back and of course both are rockets! Now days only A320 computer failure and 737 crash!
