They're not incompetent, they're just smart investors.

It is so refreshing to see a female comedian making jokes about something other than sex, love, marriage or romantic relationships.

Maybe they're not hiding nuts. Maybe they're planting crops of nut trees.

Oh! Finally! An opportunity for squirrel facts!

Did you know that squirrels watch each other bury nuts and then go steal it? Even better, this leads to a behavior called 'fake digging'. When squirrels _think_ they're being watched, they will pretend to bury the nut while hiding it in their mouth, then bury it somewhere else while the thieves are distracted looking for the fake cache! They lie to each other!

Two awesome, mind blowing conclusions:

1. This interferes with the patterns squirrels follow in burying nuts and makes them forget more.

2. It means that squirrels may understand that other animals think like they do, and they can understand that some things are true and others are false! Not necessarily sentient, but they are actually thinking!

You want to know something that will blow your mind.... oak trees will coordinatedly produce over 5 times as many acorns once in a while so that the squirrels will bury wayyyy more than they could possibly ever need. Like all the trees in an area will do this at the same time and it isn't like every 5 years or something like that. There is no set number of years between every time they do this. And they don't do it every year because if they did it would allow for a higher squirrel population which would result in the extra nuts being eaten... so these oak trees have a meeting every few years and all decide together that it's a good time to drop extra nuts.

Another fun fact:
80% of squirrels steal from each others. That’s why they can’t find the hidden nuts.

Yup. Squirrels and blue jays are very important for native forest regeneration. They both stash acorns and other tree nuts, many of which they forget about. Some of those nuts go on to germinate and grow into new trees💕
