The EU cannot get involved with negotiation with Scotland while soctland is part of the UK... The UK is sovereign and soctland is part of the UK and voted to remain part of the UK. Keeping with Scotland directly would almost be like a declaration of war to the rest of the UK. So Scotland needs to understand that in terms of foreign policy ... There is no Scotland there is only the UK. It is quite obvious.

In the same way California can not act like an independent nation from the USA, neither can Scotland.

Scotland needs to eliminate its deficit by growth of the Scottish economy as the EU does not need another money sink country. If Scotland does not grow is economy it will have to go Thatcherite and severely cut public expenditure if it votes for independence. Remember all those handouts from the UK taxpayer will cease if Scotland becomes independent of the rest of the UK. I do not want the Scottish government or its representatives turning up at the border demanding loans or handouts.

Juncker was only using Scotland as a possible leverage against the British Government over Brexit, That is why he met Krankie.

If the SNP believe for one second that the EU will consider an independent Scotland as being "entitled" to the 'same deal as negotiated by the UK' then they are sorely mistaken. Scotland will not (and cannot) possibly get the "same deal" as the UK had, and as such an independent Scotland's relationship with the EU will be quite different to what Scotland is accustomed to as part of the EU via the UK. Scottish nationalists are as bad as Brexiteers when it comes to what they demand/expect from the EU - and they are likely to face the same kind of disappointment when it becomes apparent that they are not going to be able to dictate terms to the EU. It will be the EU, not the SNP, who decide on what terms Scotland may join the EU. And if those terms are incompatible with the desires of the Scottish people, then what? Using Brexit as a justification for Scottish independence rests upon the incorrect assumption that the EU will bend over backwards to give Scotland a 'good deal' - Alex Neil's comments here prove that the SNP actually believe that Scotland will not only get such a deal, but are actually 'entitled' to one. Good luck with that, as they say. The great danger for Scotland is that the SNP press ahead with independence from the UK on the misguided belief that an independent Scotland can rejoin the EU on its own terms - but what happens when it becomes apparent that this simply isn't true?

The EU has change it's position towards Scotland. It's not a second Catalonia anymore. But they can't seperatly negotiate with Scotland because it's part of the UK. If Scotland gets it's independence however, things will change dramatically. Countries like The Netherlands for example will be very in favor of Scotland joining the EU. And don't worry about losing sovereignty. I'm from The Netherlands and we are a very, very sovereign nation in the EU. Scotland will have much more sovereignty within the EU than it would ever have as a country that's part of the UK. The only problem is Scotland's big dependance on England because of their trade with them. But on the other hand, there is a whole continent available to explore and trade with, the EU. Wich is the mightiest economic block in the world. And you won't be forced to eat chlorated chicken. 😆

What about the Scottish people who voted as part of the UK to leave ? Dont they matter ? The UK voted as a whole. Scotland should have voted for independence. But they didn't.

Scotland should ditch UK and stay in the EU.

How about England leaves the UK. We would have to make sure we had a border wall as millions of migrants will pour into Scotland. We can have our own English Parliament. Our own merit based immigration system and put our own people first instead of last like happens now. Wales voted to leave so they could join us if they wished. Ireland can then unite so there would be no border problem and Scotland would be happy as they would stay in the eu and would be able to use the euro so that stops their currency problem. Lisbon Treaty states all eu countries to be in euro by 2022 so its coming anyway.

I'm laughing to myself as Alex Niel is saying that he wants to insure that Scotland gets the same deal as the UK if it votes for indepence. considering how likely no deal is as of 3.22.2019
