If you've served in the Military, this training is nothing... really. I served 31 years Army VET (ex Drill Sergeant) & the instructors did very well. Respect. It's all about attention to detail, comradeship, discipline, teamwork, safety & the gut's to perform your sworned duty to serve & protect once you get that badge.

Now i see what my dad went through as a NYPD Cadet. However, the training was quite different in 1969.

They don't call them the New York's finest for nothing! Bless these officers who put their life on the line for the dangerous community of New York. The scary fact is my home state, Charlotte NC is growing rapidly and we will next in line. New York, Chicago, and California. Next will be Charlotte.

This job should only be taken if you literally have no other options in life; especially if you are a white male. Anyone thinking of taking this job I assure you it is nothing like you are picturing. There are no hiring standards, no training, no one has your back, the dept itself hates you and so does the city. You will deal with impossible high risk situations daily and even if you do everything right you can still have your life destroyed if the wrong political/racial winds blow your way, which happens often. The precincts are dilapidated and equipment doesn't work or is missing. If you're real lucky you can even go out on patrol in a sector car where the roof lights don't turn on...trust me on this one.

Man I see a lot of negative comments on NYPD I’ve always wanted to be a cop and keep people safe but it doesn’t sounds as glorious. I live in San Diego, Ca & was considering the police force. It’s a shame cause the I have always put NYPD at a high standard but this video did look like a lot of those recruiters are soft and have no idea about street life.

I went through the NYPD Academy in '95 which was in the old run down building in east 20 street...this NEW Academy looks like a resort compared to that old place...these recruits dont know how nice they have it!!

Awesome, used to see the cadets on subway and always wondered what their day was like... like the EDP mock scenario!! That happens 100x a day in apple

It's all fun and games until you hit the streets...that when the real training begins.

January 10th, 1995, I was wearing the cadet uniform and sitting in those classrooms. Academy was so much fun but the Gun and Shield Day was the best part of the Academy. Job has changed so much, nobody wants to be a cop in NYPD anymore. Thanx to the corrupt Mayor and politicians.👈
copkhan
Standards have been lowered so the job can look a certain way.

A bit interesting they don't show the parts where the Lt. Screams at you for 5 minutes for holding your bag in your right hand instead of your left xD

If you’ve been in the army, you know police academy is going to annoy you, feel like you in a calm basic training all over again
