Interesting idea. Though I think you should add a motor that controlls the scroll wheel, so that you can select different items from the hotbar.

For the movement, I was thinking a couple of big joystick designs would be a good idea. One for movement and the other for the camera. You could even build around some IR Remotes to make button controls for things like left/right click and the scroll wheel.

The only downside I see is needing more battery boxes and IR Power Functions, etc.

I think you should do a similar thing with RC equipment, maybe get a 6 channel aircraft controller and a few servos

I think instead of moving the mouse you should just move a ball beneath it. That way your not limited to how far your gantry can move.
