Retail stores like tj Maxx, Ross, and Marshalls buy giant boxes of things walmart/target couldn't sale or were out of season... they buy these boxes for like $10 then make thousands in profit.

You obviously don't know how Marshall's work works...

As someone who works at a Marshall’s location, we get these a lot. Our warehouses often give us past season items and occasionally we get items from/similar to Walmart. We get this comment a lot since we have a Walmart in the same plaza as us.

Used to work at Marshall's, I was literally forced to return a shoe purchase from a customer with no box, no tag, and that had actual dog shit stuck on the bottom by a manager to make the customer happy and leave. I was then told to clean it up before making a new ticket on it and putting it back on the shelf. Managers don't care about the products or the customers, they care about appearances and their hourly screaming power trips over their employees and the poor women in the back hanging clothes that don't speak English. Unless you're a teen because labor laws protect minors, please don't work at Marshall's or TJX stores. The shit pay is not worth the sexual harassment, verbal abuse, breakdowns or risking your mental health. Everywhere is hiring, look out for yourself.

Marshall's, TJ Max are owned by the same company. You can LITERALLY return ANYTHING to those stores (from anywhere) and they will take it. It's because their stocks are so massive, many products are not even in their system so they don't bother to check.

HINT: Go right after holiday returns! You can find interesting things!

I used to work at Marshalls and we had a pair of dollar tree flip flops that someone obviously left/returned that we were selling for $5. They were eventually thrown away once it stopped being summer

I remember when I worked at jcpenny whatever clearance stuff that didn't sell for a long time would end up getting "liquidation" and we would have to bring that stuff to the back to scan then box up. I asked my boss where it'd go and she told me places like Marshall's and tjmaxx buy it to resell and I was like oh cool

They would have been on clearance at Walmart for $1.

This is how discount retail stores operate.

I had a manager at Macy's that allowed a woman to return 2 pairs of jeans and two sweat shirts, that I knew for a fact, were exclusively sold at JC Penny's. I'm pretty sure that they were removed from the floor once I brought back the pictures of the brand display, at JCPenney's. I walked through there a couple of times a week on my way to lunch. So, maybe there was a similar situation here?

They can return anything at tjmaxx or Marshall’s. It is true it happens when the employees aren’t familiar with the brands they carry

Reminds me of my least favorite thrift store. I went in a few weeks ago and was looking at the clothing rack and found a "George" shirt for $18. I literally bought the same shirt at Walmart last summer and their regular price was $16.95 for that shirt. I asked the thrift store manager about it and she told me that the price was based on the condition and apparent quality of the shirt and nothing else. This is funny because Not long ago I bought a bunch of Polo shirts from my favorite thrift store for $2 each.

You should see what's inside of Burlington! I've seen clothes from Kohls, Old Navy, The Children's Place, F21, Target.

That’s not possible. Every tag in the store is already logged into the system. You can’t return something that you bought from another store. Not only will the system not accept it, but cashiers are taught to recognize fraudulent returns. Signed, a former Marshall’s cashier.

The shit they make you accept for returns is absolutely ridiculous. People make it their careers to steal and return shit at these stores I stg

I work at Burlington in receiving and we started to get stuff from target and the Disney stores too.

I knew someone who would retag old clothes with marshalls tags and return them for store credit

Ok, this is 5m late & all and I'm not the most girly-girl-who--loves-to-shop or whatever, but I remember Marshall's (& TJ Maxx, for that matter) as being sort of a more upscale/mid tier Big Lots type store that bought lotted items of home wares/decor, bedding, "ready to wear" clothing, shoes, accessories, etc in singles or bulk from the full range of department stores that couldn't sell the inventory during mid to late season, from Walmart or Meijer's to Nordstrom's but *mostly* from mid-range to up-scale (Kohl's, Dillard's, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus) and even very occasionally designer/boutique (usually designer handbags, shoes, accessories more than clothing, but some "ready to wear/off the rack" clothing (Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Michael Kors...) So I guess what I'm asking is, why is she so shocked that there's a Walmart branded item? I know it's rare to find them there, but it can't be so rare that she's never seen it before, right? Or does she maybe just live in a more expensive area than my local Marshalls & so they only carry the higher end items & this one just slipped through? Confused on this one & maybe also a bit (or more than a bit) out of touch. Edit: big dumb clumsy fingers & sleepy brain
