Kirk's speculation that this being REALLY might be the same Apollo of ancient Earth has gained more traction with me in recent years with the seemingly endless UFO stories and sightings that are in some cases very well documented.

Pentagon Tic Tacs and many others.

More and more it doesn't seem so far-fetched that what was supposed to be a sci-fi story in TOS just might have some truth about it.

That alone makes this the best "God" story for me because of the shocking possibility that what Kirk said just might be at least close to the truth.

I'm not so disparaging of Plato's Stepchildren. Of course there are the problems. But even in the worst TOS episodes, there are dramatic moments that give us greater insight into the characters and are poignant..

Spock's struggles with shame at being forced to do unthinkable things especially for a Vulcan are gut-wrenching and difficult to watch.

We see how hard it is for Spock to admit that he feels anger. In his difficulties, we are reminded that Spock must continually manage the emotional war within himself.

Poignant and insightful especially when Kirk tells Spock that there is no perfect solution--even for Vulcans. To which Spock reluctantly agrees.
