what I did was 10*4=40 the dominator
10*1=10, 4*7=28, so add them together 38/40
simplify it 19/20

we can add the cross products in the numerator divided by multiplying the denominators in the denominator
here 1*10+7*4 in numerator and 10*4 in denominator which gives 38/40=19/20

Thank you Mr. J. I was so stuck on this because my teacher was explaining this so weirdly to me. What made me explain it the best from you was that whatever you do to the numerator you must do to the denominator. Thanks!

Hey just a question, is the "Whatever done to the bottom done to the top" a rule? If so what is it called?

You could also add .7 to .25, which gives you .95. rewrite this as 95/100. 95 and 100 are both divisible by 5, = 19/20 👍
