The Lord Our God Alone Is Strong (Weekly Hymn Project

Показать описание
Today's hymn is "The Lord Our God Alone Is Strong".
Sometimes the oddest things - or what I think are oddest things - hit me musically when I'm practicing these hymns, especially a new one like this one. Those first notes are very powerful sounding and as I practiced them, my mind thought of the 1956 movie "The Ten Commandments" and the very strong brass line in the opening credits that matches up very close with the first four notes of this hymn. Neither really have anything to do with each other except for those opening four notes and the powerful sound that ensues. I can imagine a large orchestra playing in that similar sound as the movie sound track just with adding a large male choir as well with the words to this hymn. Now wouldn't that be an epic sound? I really wonder what music will be like in heaven. We have some pretty amazing sounds here in this world, but if 1 Corinthians 2:9 is any indication of the surprises awaiting our sight, we just have to wait for the sounds too that God is preparing those that love Him.
Lyrics:
The Lord our God alone is strong;
His hands built not for one brief day;
His wondrous works, thro' ages long,
His wisdom and His power display.
His mountains lift their solemn forms,
To watch in silence o'er the land;
The rolling ocean rocked with storms,
Sleeps in the hollow of His hand.
Thou sov'reign God, receive this gift
Thy willing servants offer Thee;
Accept the prayers that thousands lift,
And let these halls Thy temple be.
And let those learn, who here shall meet,
True wisdom is with reverence crowned,
And science walks with humble feet
To seek the God that faith hath found.
Amen
