I misunderstood this title and thought you were reading the oldest & newest *published* on your tbr shelf. Could be an interesting followup! & I don't remember why you didn't like Hamnet but from what you said about Instructions for a Heat Wave, I think you might also like The Hand That First Held Mine. It has the same vibe of a mystery pushed to the background while it focuses mostly on specific relationships (that ultimately shape the mystery/its answer).

Yeah tube during the heatwave is awful! All the cheese looked amazing! And I loved hamnet but I do want to read more from O'Farrell so will be looking into this one now.

I didn't realize that in the UK air conditioning isn't common until recently. I live in Texas so it's HOT but I can't imagine not having air. You are in my thoughts and I hope you can stay cool 😎
