Congrats for the incredibly different vlog. George Averof became a legend in its time defeated all by itself the Turkish Navy twice causing havoc and mayhem the second time. On its first encounter with it they were lucky to jam an elevator that lifted shells from the ships storage to the deck due to a hit by a shell. So it could only fire at 25% of its capability. It earned the nickname SAITAN PAPOR From the Turkish side, which meant DEVIL’S SHIP. It almost was purchased by the Ottoman state. In all its service (1911-1952) only one sailor was injured and one died due to the barrage of artillery shells it received. But as you can see it had very thick armour. It also served during WWII. First it defend from air raids Naval station in Salamis island and Elefsina’s airport with its antiaircraft guns that was updated with. A few days later despite the commands order for scuffolding it it defended successfully the port of Heraklion in Crete. It served also doing patrols from India all the way to South China Sea. After the war it earned the distinction of the Sword of Mediterranean Sea. And it brought back from Egypt the Greek goverment that had escaped there. It’s flag was used to the ceremony of liberation from the Axis on the Acropolis hill.

When I think of Athens, instead of known for having Modern Navy, I always think of known for building several Ancient War Triremes that sunk several Persian Fleets like a movie 300: Rise of an Empire or a Game Rome 2: Total War
