My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

When I taught English to young children I associated the letters with a colour.

a, h, j, k in grey sound /eɪ/
b, c, d, e, g, p, t, v in green sound /iː/
f, l, m, n, s, x, z in red sound /e/
o, in yellow sound /əʊ/
q, u, w in blue sound /uː/
i, y in white sound /aɪ/
only r doesn't rhyme with a colour so they colored it in black.

To complete I also used a sort of rap called The Alphabet Rap.

In Singapore, British English is taught and used in official settings such as schools and workplaces, but somehow, there are Singaporeans locals who prefer to pronounce the alphabet Z as Zee. This is the consequence of getting influenced by American culture.

Thanks so much for the lovely video. I was looking for a video that showed the differences between the American and British pronunciation of our shared alphabet.

The letter R has always been pronounced as “ar” in Mid-West America. That’s all I’ve ever known it as. Many thanks for sharing the proper way to say it. 🙂

As a non-Anglophone, I was raised in an education system where RP was taught. English Second Language Higher Grade became my pet subject, which I always passed with distinction. Later in life, I was diagnosed with aphasia after a dozen strokes, four of which were basal ganglia and at least one cerebellar. Even now, despite articulation problems, I have a clearer pronunciation than most YouTube content creators. I hate it when I hear people speak of Idilly or Toronno, for instance. Their pronunciation is in deficit.
