Ours were blue wires with one yellow coming from somewhere. Same setup, same solution. Had a jumper in the garage already, apparently.

thanks for sharing. a buddy of mine is working on an x700 and we didnt even realize you could mow in reverse by lifting the switch.

Why cut the wires??? On my X500, I simply used a 2" piece of#14 solid wire, bent it 180 degrees-ish, and jammed it in the blue and yellow connector terminals to jump the two wires(i.e. short the two wires). Easy peasy. When my 13 year old kid mows, I simply pull the jumper out. You are on the right track, but you don't have to over-engineer it.
