Let's just take a sec and appreciate Steve Jobs. Fascinating, smart, revolutionary guy

Huge thanks to The Glasses Kid for help with research this episode!

Jacksfilms! It's my favourite Apple parody of his.

*A Blipper is that quick little thing right before I go into the end screen.

My phone is a Nokia from 2008. I got my phone before BBC's "Sherlock" first premiered. I got my phone before Michael Jackson died. It's older than Ed Sheeran's "+", "The Kane Chronicles", season 1 of "Attack on Titan". I got my phone before Tom Scott uploaded "Two Drums and a Cymbal".

I got my phone before Dan and Phil met.

I need a new phone.

*Some things that were cut from this episode for time:*
On Apple and Luxury:
Quick sidenote, Apple bought Beats by Dre in 2014 for $3 billion, and Apple and Beats are a match made in heaven. Both have tech that is pretty nice, but the high price tag is justified by their position in the marketplace as a premium, lifestyle brand. Also, they both have the names of a food.

On Steve Jobs's house:
On the houses, Jobs told biographer Walter Isaacson “Eichler did a great thing... His houses were smart and cheap and good. They brought clean design and simple taste to lower-income people... I love it when you can bring really great design and simple capability to something that doesn’t cost much, ” and, on Zen Buddhism, he said, “I have always found Buddhism, Japanese Zen Buddhism in particular, to be aesthetically sublime. The most sublime thing I’ve ever seen are the gardens around Kyoto.”

EDIT: Yes, I know I said premium wrong ;p

If you like what you just saw, please watch more, like, share, and subscribe! I love y'all so much.

Alright, here are two great jokes you made:
1. You're mom going "This is why you wanted me to drive you?" - using your age to your advantage is quite simply brilliant and something most people would consider a weakness because they fail to see how it can be properly utilized for things like this.
2. 4:28 - that made me actually laugh out loud, which doesn't happen all that often for me on the internet. :)

For all of all of you, like me who wondered about that dark flash of text on the screen was at 5:10 here it is:

Some quick math here:
211.88 million iPhones were sold in 2016, so (((211, 880, 000/365)/24)60)/60= 6.71867072552 iPhones every second. 6.71867072552*20 (length of the video in seconds) =134.37341451 approximately were sold. Granted, those numbers are planning to change because apple is on track for 2017 to sell more iPhones than 2016.

Now that I have copied all of that down I realize how obvious and unnecessary that was.

Your shirt is advertising the solar eclipse. While I was watching the video, I was making a solar filter out of a DVD for my mom's DSLR.

Doing a bit of a archive dive from your recent vid on my 32GB iPhone 6, it is kinda ironic that I watched this vid as I didn’t get the phone for status or such, it was just cheaper than buying a new-enough Android phone I could use to set up my Oculus Go, and now the iPhone serves as both portable media and as a 4G tether for when I’m streaming from my PC (otherwise stuck on ~8mbps down ADSL landline >.>)

You hit the nail on the head with the part about saying you are paying for the brand

Another thing you touched upon that is probably the reason I bought a new iPhone the other week even though I briefly considered the Pixel. Though a few little things did put me off the Pixel, such as not being able to sync with iTunes (yes, people still do that in 2017), those didn't matter half as much as this one thing: *Successful people own iPhones.*

I almost didn't realise it, but when youtubers like John Green and CGP Grey use iPhones in their videos, it has an effect. Grey talks about his iPhone quite a lot, and so do all his podcaster friends. And if successful Youtubers aren't your thing, then relatable fictional characters just might be. So I think product placement has a lot to do with it as well.

Because people is dumb. I stay with my new Nokia 3, thank you.

I can assure the part of luxury from a mexican perspective: there is only one apple store here in Mexico City, opened recently in a mall located on the richest (and preppiest) zone of the city. The rest is "iShops", licenced apple stores managed by Mixup, the biggest chain of music and video retail in the country. Next to almost all Mixup stores there is one iShop. But most of the people gets their phones via departamental stores, mobile carrier retail spots and in informal markets (some of them stolen).

You can see a lot of girls with their rose gold iphone with a really ugly fake jewlery case, while they still use public transport as they can't afford a car, but the iPone is a must, even at 24 payments of $2.99

so basically apple treats you like a pleb so they can sell you their prison

One more thing about Apple stores - the style is controlled globally. They are not fitted to each country specifically - they are similar globally and even certified resellers need to fit their requirements.

WebKit, CUPS, Bonjour, Grand Central Dispatch, Swift, APFS, 64bit ARM, etc. etc.

Apple's a technology brand with luxury sensibilities. There's a ton of unappreciated tech inside iPhones and Macs that a lot of people won't see, and would miss if it was gone.
