Q: Why are there two (or sometimes three) copies of each note?
A: The vertical direction (pitch) is continuous, but the horizontal direction is broken (one column for each circle-of-fifths chain, so there are seven of them), which means that for one of the half-step intervals, the direction is wrong. My workaround for this was to have three copies of the chains, so that the horizontal direction could be continuous. Another way to deal with this is to arrange the chains in a circle, so that you don't need multiple copies. I've done that in the alternate version of the video:
