FAQ

Q: Where can I watch this performance?
A: Here ...

Q: Where can I learn more about the performer?
A: Here ...

Q: Why are there two (or sometimes three) copies of each note?
A: The vertical direction (pitch) is continuous, but the horizontal direction is broken (one column for each circle-of-fifths chain, so there are seven of them), which means that for one of the half-step intervals, the direction is wrong. My workaround for this was to have three copies of the chains, so that the horizontal direction could be continuous. Another way to deal with this is to arrange the chains in a circle, so that you don't need multiple copies. I've done that in the alternate version of the video:

Q: What do the colors mean?
A: Colors are assigned according to pitch, in a system I call "harmonic coloring" (since it shows changes in harmonies). You can read more about this here:

Q: I appreciate your videos; how can I support your work?
A: There are several ways:
free: like, subscribe, spread the word
donate: click the Thanks button

It's an honor to be included in such a creative and revealing visualization - of such a little Ligeti masterpiece!

I've been watching your videos for well over a decade, I think that's your best work so far (or anyway, instantly it became my favourite)

Really interesting, and what a travesty that the video of the original performance is 9 years old with such a low view count.

Quite a different visualization than I am used to seeing. It's a good fit for this piece of music.

One of the best visualizations I've seen from this channel! I can tell that the 'vertical' distances are perfect fifths, but can someone with more ear training say what the 'horizontal' distances are?
