For the kids that have never read the books, this probably looks awesome.

But for the fans, this is GARBAGE.

Artemis Fowl is supposed to be many things:
- A manipulative sociopath
- An evil genius
- A greedy thief and conman
- An antisocial 12 year old with vampire vibes
- An arrogant douchebag
- DISNEY DONE SLATHERED A COAT OF PIXIE DUST ON MY BOY
In the first book, he already knows about the elves, he studies their bible so he can learn about them, and then kidnaps Holly Short and holds her for ransom so he can be the first human to separate the elves from their gold. THEY ARE NOT BEST FRIENDS OFF TO SAVE THE WORLD IN AN ADVENTURE!!! The first book is a heist story. It's Ocean's Eleven with magic. This is some kind of watered-down "Tomb Raider for kids" crap.

Also, other people have said it and I agree. The kid who played Five in Umbrella Academy would have made a great Artemis Fowl at the exact age he was then. Actually, Five is an infinitely better depiction of Fowl than anything in this trailer. The slightly old fashioned rich schoolboy look. The asshole personality. Artemis Fowl is basically Five if he was actually 13 and way more sociopathic.

I remember after UA came out and seeing people say about Five that "That's literally what I always imagined Artemis Fowl looked like." And I was like holy shit it's true.

Artemis was not the good guy. In the books, he is a criminal mastermind that weasels his way into the world of magic and then tries to exploit it for his own gain. The Trailer makes Artemis and His family out to be the good guys and protectors of this magic realm. I really hope that this was just a trick of the trailer because they did my boy Artemis dirty.

This gets 1/1 broken hearts. I was so excited for this movie. I almost wore out the first two books. But I guess Harry Potter really was the exception and not the rule.

The problem is is that Artemis Fowl in the books (at least the ones I've read) is sort of an asshole criminal. He kidnaps people and isn't really friends with Holly Short, who in this trailer is his "ally". It seems really Disneyfied how he's coming across in this trailer, and seems to be a completely different character to the one in the books. He seems to be guided into this world by other people when in the books, he finds the world himself.

I was smack-dab in the middle of the intended audience when they came out. On the first book there's a cipher running on the bottom of all the pages, and in one of the chapters there is a partially translated portion. Well, one week I was sick and home from school, and after reading the book, I took to translating the whole cipher. Just by power of deduction, and that sort of determination and obsession you get when you're too sick to focus on several topics, but can laser focus on one thing.

People seem to do a good Job at explaining Things to you, but let me join in.
1.: Artemis Fowl is not a Guy that enjoys doing....anything physical. Kendo? Surfing? Nope! Artemis HATES Sport.
He is extremely clever, but if his Bodyguard Butler isn't with him and he can't outsmart his Enemies, Artemis is pretty much useless.

2.: Holly Short was not his Friend in the Books. She was actually kidnapped by him and imprisoned in the Dungeon beneath his Mansion. Artemis was a "Villain-Protagonist" as TV Tropes would call it.

3.: Judy Dench is a Man. Well, she is SUPPOSED to be a Man. Her Character was actually an Elven Police Commissioner named Julius Root.
That seems to be a Trend these Days. Judy Dench gets casted in the Role of important male Characters.
First CATS, now Artemis Fowl.

The problem with this (from what I see in the trailer) is that this movie is being made by Disney. Yes, the books were YA but they were never “family friendly”. Kind of comparing apples to oranges but think what would have happened if Disney had the Hunger Game Series. By the time they were done making the movie “family friendly” it would no longer resemble the books in any way. Afraid that’s what happened here and Disney cut off a good chunk (ha) of its potential audience.
As for your reaction, I loved the Tracy Morgan cut in. I don’t remember seeing you guys use one before. I’m not a fan of when reactors use them (what I call cut ins)but this made sense and was well placed.

I wish they would just go ahead and change the kid's name, and re-label this as a new movie, with no connection to the books. It would be that easy to stop this madness... because this movie literally has nothing to do with the books at this point.

It’s weird. If you just watch the trailer without sound, it looks a lot like the first book. I can place almost every scene and tell you what is happening at that point in the book. However, the background story that the dialog is trying to sell is completely different. It makes me wonder if the movie actually is faithful to the books, but someone decided they couldn’t sell it. In the first book Artemis is the BAD GUY. He only ends up helping Holly for selfish reasons. Even in the later books, he’s more of an anti-hero.

I gotta am not impressed by this trailer. Yes, I'm an adult. No I do not know the ins and outs of the stories. But I know Men in Black when I see em and..*points a finger at the trailer.

This is going to be the worse adaptation of book series ever. The appeal of Artemis Fowl was that he was a criminal mastermind. For some reason, Disney decided to make Suicide Squad meets World of Warcraft. Do not compare this to Harry Potter. This is closer to what they did to Percy Jackson where a minimalist stage musical was far superior to the multi million dollar movie. Stop messing with the book plots. Just because your the film maker does not mean you CREATED the story. Your job is to bring it life...not pock it up with your stupid B plot BS.

Never read the books. But even without the rage that comes from a true fan being disappointed by a corporate hack trashing something they love, this looks like a lazy mashup of every cliche possible.

Wow, Gollum gets another big villain role in a movie, and it is good to see the Great Gazoo getting some work. Beyond that, it looks rather generic and seems to give away the plot. I give the trailer 2/4 that ain't no Harry Potter. And I'm glad you told us what the noise was, because I was assuming one of you was having severe intestinal issues.
