I have a 401k I have not touched for about 18 years it's been that long since I worked for that company has it been accumulating interest this whole time?

Question. My old employer's company that was investing an old 401k account cashed it out and claimed they tried to send me a check back in 2012. They said the portfolio value was too low to kept investing. Do you think they would have taken out any fees etc prior to cashing it out in 2012? Or will I be expected to pay fees/taxes out of the amount they are sending me? Thx
