Correct if I'm wrong, but in the "on" position it not only does not cancel out the magnetic pull, but actually doubles the strength of the original magnet!

I always figured these things just pulled an inner magnet away from the surface and merely weakened it, but the reality is way more interesting!

The round thing is just a metallic rod. There are at least two strong magnets inside. In the “off” position, the polarity of the magnets are positioned in such a way the magnetic flux are close to the magnets. In the “on” position, the polarities are parallel and the flux extends beyond the rod, making it magnetic in itself. If the round rod is magnetic by itself, it will somehow always attract the metal.

I've used these for welding for years and have always pondered the different ways in which it could work. Turns out I'm not smart enough to come close to the actual method!! Thanks Steve

was looking on amazon and allot of people saying they often come weak and unable to pull with force higher than 30lbs and are advertise at minimum of 130lbs.

I dont trust it.

That's crazy, I was just thinking about how magnetic doors close and wondering if they were constantly drawing power when closed because of electric magnets yesterday and then you just release a video answering my question 😁

This would sound cooler if you added that it doesn't have a battery (not in a methaphorical way where permanent magnets lose their fields with time). Because otherwise – an electromagnet that can be switched off is probably common enough.
