We Singers Make Bold (aka Yorkshire Merry Christmas) (trad; Roud 9681) 20 December 2020

Показать описание
As I've already sung this twice today in other singing contexts, today seems like a good day to sing here "We Singers Make Bold" (aka "Yorkshire Merry Christmas" - or if you're in Yorkshire near Sheffield, just "Merry Christmas"). (This mentions both singers and shepherds, which I feel makes it a 'double score' Xmas song!)
The chorus is clearly closely related to the standard figgy pudding "Merry Christmas", but this particular version is that from the Sheffield & Derbyshire village carols tradition.
I learned this (with slightly modified words) in a choir I'm in, who got it from Ian Russell's book "The Sheffield Book of Village Carols". Kate Rusby sings a slightly different versions as "Yorkshire Merry Christmas" on her album "The Frost Is All Over".
