Choice matters, in a world where the choices we make are phantoms of what they once were

For newbie debian based distros are very good to get along

It's like saying there are too many manufactures and models of cars when you want to buy your first one...

No no, if there weren't customized distros there was no way my 1990s PC would still be running. The real angst is not the number of choices, stability or customizations, its hardware support. There is a scarcity of Linux compliant hardware, say for instance a wi fi USB dongle for a Lubuntu 18 distro. Maybe 🤔 a Chrome OS flex that supports 32 bit laptops? No sign of an easy way to do it yet?! Linux in general has more flavors than all Windows versions since 3.1. let's hope the hardware that can support Linux comes in as many flavors as Windows ranges of laptops, tablets and phones. Maybe as many as Android versions and hardware phones. Diversity is a strength not a weakness!

I would reccomend Tuxedo OS for laptops with dGPUs and Kubuntu or KDE Neon for anything else.

This is telling me people are too lazy to do research on what distro fits their needs

Many years ago, I tried my first Linux - that was Ubuntu. And since this time I use this, it is simply perfect for a stupid user like me. 😅
Easy, reliable and a very good support in the community - exactly the opposite of Windows.

I think that most Linux users would reccomend Mint as a first distro, then you could go into Fedora, Arch based distros. I've heard a lot about Mint before I started journey with Linux, I would've chosen Mint if not Steam deck that made me dependent on KDE Plasma and I didn't know what to choose so I took Manjaro.

And there should be more distros. Distros to start with always remain same.
1. Mint
2. Kubuntu (my recommendation) / ubuntu
3. EndeavourOS (laptop) or manjaro (pc) .

If anyone is knew to Linux. I would recommend Kubuntu since it is using a KDE desktop environment which can be more familiar to window users. It is just Ubuntu with a different desktop environment.

I think Ubuntu is best. It is the standard distro when you are using Linux for gaming, or normal use.

Ubuntu and Linux Mint are both Debian based.
You can recreate them using Debian.
The only thing that makes distros truly different is the package manager.
The following distros are not based on anything and have different package managers.
- Debian
- Arch Linux (DIY distro, not for beginners)
- Fedora/Red Hat
- OpenSUSE/SUSE
- Gentoo (You need to compile it youself, also a DIY distro and not for beginners)
- NixOS
- Void Linux
- Alpine Linux (very lighweight)
But those are not the only different distros with different package managers.

I like Linux mint the most but there are some problems with using wine on it but otherwise it’s good for beginners

Choice matters. If you are a newbie there is enough information out there to do some research. If one is not even able to commit bare minimum to researching then idk how would they handle learning Linux (as I belive they are switching to Linux for some reason)

the only one l knew was ubuntu, so l started on that, did not like the mac feel but like the way it ran, and wanted a windows feel so went with mint, tried others over the 10 years but have stayed with mint

The answer is yes to both. There's both too many distros and it's also a huge strongsuit that keeps linux, linux

Best beginner would be basically anythinp debian based that isnt Ubuntu.
