Why Unit Size Matters

What if I told you that size always matters? Well, at least in TFT! I always wondered if the unit size affects combat in any way. We already had plenty of examples in the past that confirmed that theory, like Draconic Sett in set 5, but what if there was more to it? So, in Inkborn Fables, I decided to tackle this once and for all. At first, I wanted to see if the unit targeting at the start of combat is random, and what I found might surprise you! So sit back and enjoy the show as Detective Quack discovers the hidden rules of Teamfight Tactics!

Funnily enough, with the small but deadly augment, Caitlyn ult can just go straight through the champions really easily and one shot the carry. Encountered this twice

This might be a big part of why Ornn is such a reliable tank. If he's always targeted first, then it's just a further increase to his ability as a tank.

Great info, but did you know that working out with Sett makes you BIGGER?

Mortdog says you're half right but the team is aware 🤔

Thanks for the information! Very cool, love your videos. But I think you're missing something about how this all works: did you know that working out with Sett makes you BIGGER?

Is this why my 8-bit Riven would never focus the backline despite dashing right in front of their face? Riven would always just ignore the backline and walk towards the tanks anyways

5:15 honestly, if you get to line up Caitlin-type units in a straight line, I think the "2-star and up units block the projectile" is a bit lame. It's a win of positioning, and it should be that way regardless of star level of the "bodyguards".

One noticeable thing about unit size is spells using the unit itself as the hitbox

Most common example is Yone's spell, whatever he touches with the dash also takes damage and with 2 Titans, Yone size is more than 1 hex and thus even if a unit is cornered, when he launch himself at his target that while blocked still receive a massive ammount of damage

Udyr might also have a larger knock up with his Ram Slam but he rarely ever gets 25 titans stack b4 casting that and usually swapped to Tiger Strike once he's 25 stacks and him being a 5 cost means i cant really confirmed this

Sizes also sometimes let units attack 1 range further than ther range but this only applies for 1-2 autos depends on AS

It's good to see you talk about frontline ranged units attacking backline units. I find that Hero Shen is the best choice for this because you can build him tank and he goes straight for the carries.

And a lot of players don't even notice the bug happening, but they naturally play enough units to prevent the bug.

You have forgotten to speak about one big interraction, long distance pals, if i'm not mistaken this augment is totally influenced by unit size too

Editor Here. I apologize for the typo I made at 0:26 . It is supposed to say "Trajan TC" and not "Tarjan TC". I'll double check next time

For start-of-fight targeting, I'm pretty sure you're overthinking it.
It's more likely that the standard combat ai (when many units are in range, pick the closest) is just choosing larger units as "closer" when measuring from the edge of one hitbox to another.
Similar issue shows up with LDP when "farthest" can change based on unit size.
That bug with ranged units in top-right hexes is weird.

that double titants range bug has been around for a few sets now

Despite playing since beta, I found out 9 new things I have never even considered thinking about after watching 2 videos of LeDuck. How did no one tell me of him???

It sounds like a similar issue to what League has with certain spells and edge-to-edge targeting vs center--to-center targeting.
