Very nice assortment. I have my grandfathers box. I got it from him 50 years ago when he retired as a tool and die maker. Enjoy. Thanks for sharing.

The "dentistry tool" is for inspecting a part. Usually you use a larger mirror to check the indicator when it is spun away from you but there are times where the part is still mounted and you cannot see the side facing the jaws/chuck etc and a small mirror allows you to verify things like a chamfer being on the part before you remove it from the holding set up.

Glad your father-in-law found someone to appreciate his tools. Probably a lot of retired machinists wish they could do the same.

I'm sure someone has said it but the first item you got stuck on and called a height gage or for scribing actually apprars to be a mag base indicator holder. You recognized another version when it was holding an Indictator later in the video.

It's a really old tool box, cause the newer trig tables have been battery operated for a long 😉😂
Did you notice the characteristic oily smell that we find in these old chests ... ??? One of those smells that mark us like new books in September when we go back to school when we were young
This is a great gift, you get most of the needed tools to get you started in basic machining, just start enlarging your shop, you got bit and caught the 😁😉🌈👍

1:30 I am going to make a guess here and say, that object you dont know what it is at this timestamp is part of a clamping dial indicator. I did a quick Google search on micrometers and measuring tools and came across it. Hope that helps your journey

"That's a hunk of metal there" yeah, I have my own little box and know where to find the other 'for the one job with the weird thing' tools... Kept for one reason and you will almost never know until you need it and see it in action. Very cool to see! Love snooping into cool shit!

18:00 I think that’s a tool for recutting centers. It’s used after you finish turning an axle in a steady rest.

ISO 9000 is a quality assurance standard so given the calibration stickers on everything he was working in an ISO 9000 compliant shop. Probably a supplier to the auto industry or some other major industry.
