I moved from Atlanta to Albuquerque in 2020. Right before I left Atlanta I went in to the Post Office to put in a change of address and was promptly told that the Post Office can not forward mail to a foreign country. I advised her that New Mexico has been a state since 1912 and she refused to accept that. Her supervisor straightened her out about New Mexico being in the USA.

Reminds me of people that think Egypt isn't a part of Africa or that the Philippines in somewhere in South America. And yes, I've had to argue both of these previously mentioned issues. Good grief people....

When I tell people we are moving to New Mexico they say "Why Mexico?" Like no New Mexico and they look confused. I'm so glad map reading was a big thing in our home growing up.

In my work cubicle I had a little stuffed green alien doll that I bought while in Roswell. My coworker asked me about it and I told her I got it in New Mexico. She then tells me, "omg, that's so mean and really messed up of you". I was confused for a moment and then I realized she thought it was like an alien doll from Mexico and that I was making fun of undocumented Mexicans. I explained to her New Mexico was a state and that Roswell is known for a supposed alien crash site. She had never heard of Roswell or NM until I told her. 🤦🏻‍♀️
