He had to admit on record that he retired early to avoid having to pay anything to me. We'd been married 30+ years.

I recently discovered for me what was a "new" strategy against me.
When you start to make headway in a debate that the narc drew me into (they always initiate a debate as a validation pastime for their addictive supply")
When they recognize that they are on the backfoot and as losing an argument is not an option they then create a straw man side issue. In my case I was accused of using "big words" that he did not understand. I said I was using English words that I was familiar with. He then berated me as deliberately trying to undermine his argument by not speaking in plain common English. I told him that's how it is, because I would have to read his mind in order to know what he understood or didn't and that the effect would be to gag myself if I acquiesced to his ridiculous circular reasoning. It became pain to me that this was an off ramp to shift the focus from his losing argument to an unwinnable debate over word choice. I was forced to invent an excuse to curtail the debate by saying sorry there's somebody at the door. It's completely debilitating mentally when you realize your in the hamster wheel and say to yourself how did I get here?

So so true ! I've heard it a 1000 times, And I will say stick to the subject we are discussing ! Followed by you are talking about anything but except what I'm talking about ! Followed by I have the text, or receipt or just start loughing like they so much like to do to others when they know they destroying you or threw your boots away and repeatedly say I don't know what happened to them ! They make a daily habit of telling you that you can't remember anything, or where you put something when they know they intentionaly moved it ! This is just little things they do . The big things bring do much havoc that you just hate them ! They are not something you can just have faith and pray about becouse they will just play that game to ! It's a no win no matter what !
