Thanks for the tip I've done that some have worked some have not but it's worth a try to save a few dollars.

Trickle charge a new battery for 24-36 hours and you will get much longer service life. This rarely gets done because people are in a rush to get their car going again. I learned a lot about lead acid cells when I was in the two way radio business.

I always used battery tenders specially on the vehicles i dont use ! i have an interstate battery that is almost 10 years old and a lawn tractor battery for 6 ! good video !

Great tip ! I found that sometimes you can carefully pry off the 'caps' and add distilled water to the cells and then put battery on a trickle charger, most of the batteries are low on water ! even though they're maintance free !

Something else that can be done is to hook two batteries together like you would in a jump start type situation. The live battery will show the voltage the charger needs to see, and the charger should start charging.

I’m an head electric go kart mechanic. Our karts use 4 12v optima deep cycle batteries. (Blue tops $300 ish dollars a piece) I use a 16 lead medusa charger to trickle charge 16 different batteries at a time then give them a short rest period before installing them back into a kart. This desulfating maintenance process has saved us $120, 000 in annual battery cost because mechanics previously just see a bad battery and get it replaced.

I tried 800 mAmps for a few weeks and it worked like a charm. I hook it back up every couple of weeks for maintenance, especially during the cold winter months. This is great advice.

I've seen another method of cooking it with high amps for a short period, then starting the trickle charge for a stronger cleaning of the cathodes. Worked well for me a few times now.

i have also done the opposite, 150 amps for a day cooks them back to life definetly not a good idea but works

That explains why my homemade 1.5A charger made of an old printer power supply is the best charger I have.

This is so true, I had my battery sit on the charger for a week and it finally came back to life.

I’ve learned that charging it slow seems to have better results. Even in the long run. Great video.

Some digital chargers have a setting to clean up the lead plate oxidation inside the battery. Supposedly it pulses a charge to the battery and reverses polarity back and forth for the first portion of the charge. I've heard of them saving batteries that had sat for years that didn't want to take a charge from a standard charger.

I've revived a battery that was 100% dead, read 0v, and I'm still using it today. I start my car 5-20 times a day. (Security) And have an aftermarket 700w sound system and no issues. It's been about a year.

I bought an automatic charger several years back and I thought I'd keep a voltmeter hooked up to monitor its charge voltage. When I came back I was alarmed it showed like 17 volts and bubbling, so I disconnected the charger after it did this a few times, thinking it was malfunctioning. It was after warranty so I bought a different brand automatic charger and noticed the same thing, on a few batteries. I searched on the internet and finally figured out it's desulfating the plates.

It would have been nice if the product manuals would inform the customers that this happens during battery maintenance, because I didn't need to buy another charger. I was also concerned by the reader high voltage when charging a battery installed in a car. But it turned out ok because I just gave one of the chargers to my Dad and told him about this.

Have an agm for my bike it's 7 years old now. It was in 10 degree weather dead as door knob. Performed the slow charge. Been ok since. Florida heat seems to have taken a bigger toll than Ohio. I'll give that a try on the 2.7. Stop start only works after a charge. Battery health 50 percent. Great info thanks again...

I bought a trickle charger for my bike when it sits through winter. I use it to bring dead batteries back. Now it might take a week but it's worth it
