It’s crazy that all of this stuff for life here on earth is precise that if anything was a hair off it would change the whole earth as we know it.

If it's molten metal, would it not lose its magmatism?? Magnets cease to work when heated

Something I'm not clear on ; when we forge steel, you can tell its reached forging temp when it loses its magnetic properties, I'm guessing that pressure in the mantle and core changes the conditions, but I'm sure you have a better explanation (hint hint )

I just had magnetic fields as a topic during my lecture. I didn’t 100% get it, so I looked it up on yt. Literally after this few second clip I now actually understand it. Dr. Tyson rly is incredible

Can somebody please hand this information over to grade school teachers for dissemination with their students please.

And this is the reason life exists on this planet.

I love Star Talk! The topics are fascinating, Neil is a wonderful educator, and Chuck’s laugh is infectious. Keep posting. 💚

So does that mean eventually Earth will cool enough that we won't have a liquid core and won't have a magnetic field?

And this magnetic field keeps us all in Touch Shocking🎉

And the moons movement constantly pulls on the earths crust (unevenly*)
Causing tital friction which adds heat to the core**
The churning causes magnetism cause of radioactive decay and moving iron!!

Excellent explanation sir. Congratulations sir.

Iron and nickle ain't producing a magnetic field at over 6000 Kelvin. Over simplifying the going theory is just avoiding saying we don't know for sure yet

How do magnets work?

The magnet consists of concentric clockwise and counterclockwise dipole rings that extend from one pole to the other over the entire body of the magnet.

Dipole rings in the same direction attract each other, and dipole rings in opposite directions repel each other. Likewise, currents in the same direction attract each other and currents in opposite directions repel each other.

An electric current can induce dipoles in a magnetic material to form dipole rings. Moving magnets can induce electrons in a conductor to produce an electric current.

Since a dipole ring has two magnetic poles, clockwise and counterclockwise, there cannot be a single magnetic pole.

Our blood system has moving metals..I'm dynamo!

Ok, so how do we stop this dynamo?
Asking for a friend.
An...evil friend.

Can you explain why the Earth is speeding up and why the magnetosphere is shifting so fast?

I feel properly enlightened now about this subject and can now hold my head higher as I strut up to the dishwashing machine ❤🎉
