Please note that most house hold machines have a twin needle setting for zig zag stitch so you don't break it. You can also thread it with two different colors to get a really cool effect.
I sometimes use it with an embroidery stitch which makes an incredible hemline for circle skirts.

I use mine to hem all my knits! The way it works with the bobbin thread makes a stretch stitch. So useful!

If you have a cheaper brother LX3817 sewing machine this is a tip:


it only works with a narrow twin needle. 2.5mm or smaller. If you put a 4 mm in there you can try a middle straight stitch, but a zig zag or left will slam into the plate next to the hole 🕳 4 some reason mine wouldn't even catch both needles on a straight stitch when I tried a 4 but 2.5, 2, &1mm, were perfect!

And twin needles come with different widths between the needles.

You can do zigzag stitches too. They are great for decorative stitches too.
