Is this the most unhinged attraction that Disney has ever created?

In this episode of Distory, we head back to the 1971 version of Snow White’s Adventures in Walt Disney World. We start by finding ourselves in a dark dwarf’s cottage (with a bizarre guest) before encountering many MANY jump scares by the terrifying witch, whose hands have a secret. We race through the mine before discovering a crazy scene that is not in the original film and make a connection between its ending and the 1958 Alice in Wonderland dark ride. After we escape, we move forward in time to the 1994 version of Snow White’s Scary Adventures, finding the ways Imagineering tried to make this ride less scary and more like the original film. Much to Kirk’s chagrin, Kate talks about the history of turtlenecks, ponders the different looks of princes, and gives us some mirror lessons before we say goodbye to this bizarre classic attraction.

One thing I find unsettling about the dark cottage in the 1971 Disney World ride (besides the scared furniture and the ghostly shadow on the wall) is the Witch's line when she appears in the doorway/window with the apple - she cackles and says, "Sleeping apple?". To me it gives the impression that at that point in the ride, the Witch is growing increasingly desperate to get you to eat the apple and fall into the sleeping death, before she stops using it and tries to kill you by other means. And that's not to mention, the echo effect applied to the Witch's cackle in the "starburst" ending scene hammers in the impact of her dropping the gem onto you.
The 2nd half (from the dark cottage to the "starburst" room) is what made this version the most unhinged and disturbing ride that Disney has put out - it takes the light-hearted parts of a simple, if multi-layered (tonally speaking) story and twists them so the entire experience is dark compared to the movie where the scariest parts were the forest scene and the Evil Queen's transformation.

As an astrologer, I can’t help but wonder why they chose to start with Taurus and end with Aries, instead of the natural order of the zodiac (Aries-Pisces). Perhaps the signs of Imagineers who worked on it? Great episode, love the spookier elements of Disney!

Edit: perhaps since these are the two Horned signs?

Long ago Defunctland appeared before me in a cloak offering me an enchanted apple, so Distory must be the eternal slumber where all of my extremely specific theme park youtube dreams come true
